NAMM 2018: Ibanez Basses

Ibanez introduced a total of 32 new electric bass models for 2018, with a vast majority, naturally, belonging to the ubiquitous SR range.

Ibanez`s 2018 lineup was introduced at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, Ca. Among over 100 new models, there were 32 electric basses. Most of them, of course, belong to the SR range. Besides SR, Ibanez Bass Workshop, BTB, Talman, and GSR ranges were also updated. The new Ibanez Bass Workshop received eight models: UB804, SRMS800, SRMS805, SRMS806, SRSC806, BTB845V, SRH505, and SRH505F. The new Sound Gear (the full name of the SR range) come in Premium and Standard classes, with no Prestige models introduced this time. New SR models in 2018 lineup will be: SR2600E, SR2605E, SR1820E, SR1825E, SR1700BE, SR1705BE, SR870, SR875, SR876, SR670, SR675, SR400EQM, SR300E, SR305E, SR1405, SR405EQM, SR370EF, and SR306EB. GIO`s SR series will be expanded with two new models: GSR200SM and GSR205SM. The Talman Bass series has received only one model, a standard class TMB100M. BTB series will feature five new basses: BTB1825E, BTB1826E, and BTB747.

Ibanez UB804 is a Bass Workshop model, the only upright bass in 2018 lineup. It comes with a solid maple body, standard 34” bass scale, Tama tri-pod stand, and Aerosilk piezo electronics. Ibanez SRMS800 is a member of the multi-scale trio Ibanez Bass Workshop received at NAMM. It is the four-string variant, coming in with poplar burl/walnut top, Bartolini BH2 pickups, and 33.5”-34.55” scale. Ibanez SRMS805 is there for five-string players who want to explore the compound-scale possibilities. Ibanez SRMS806 is the six-string option of the multi-scaled Ibanez Bass Workshop trio introduced at this year`s NAMM Show. Ibanez SRSC806 is the only single-cut SR model introduced this year. Ibanez BTB845V is the only BTB model introduced through the Workshop series. Ibanez SRH505 is one of two semi-hollow SR models introduced this year. Both are, however, reissues of last year’s models. Ibanez SRH505F is the fretless variant of the regular 505 model. The main difference is the lack of frets on this one, with all other features and specs being shared between the two. Ibanez SR2600E opens up the SR Premium section of the reviews.
