NAMM 2015: Fender Acoustics and Folk Instruments

Fender unveils a small, quality-oriented set of acoustic, acoustic-electric and folk instruments for 2015.

NAMM 2015: Fender Acoustics and Folk Instruments

With eight models in the acoustic segment, Fender kicks off 2015 in style. Revamped Concert Tone banjo series, upscale resonator and gorgeous acoustic guitars enrich Fender`s roster.

In the fourth and the last part of the review of Fender`s novelties introduced at this year`s NAMM, we`ll tackle the acoustic segment of the catalog. A total of eight models is being introduced, with three models in the acoustic guitar section, four models in the rebooted Concert Tone banjo series, and one luxurious acoustic-electric resonator guitar in the Resonator range.  Among the acoustics, Tim Armstrong HC is the only signature model, Vince Ray Outter Space Bucket belongs to the Bucket series, while the Kingman ASCE refreshes the mighty Kingman series. Concert Tone Banjo series starts out with four models in its ranks: Concert Tone 54 Banjo, Concert Tone 58 Banjo (comes with a case, like the Kingman ASCE), Standard Concert Tone 55 Banjo and Premium Concert Tone 59 Banjo. Beautiful Roosevelt Resonator CE completes the list of the new acoustic and folk instruments for 2015.

The review section opens up with the cool & stylish Kingman ASCE which comes with a case. Pretty neat feature, by all means. Solid mahogany and solid spruce make up the single-cut dreadnought body of this SoCal-inspired six-shooter. Even the 3-Color Sunburst color scheme reminds of the sands of California`s beaches. Fishman electronics, Fender hardware and Strat neck are also featured on this model. For a closer view and more info, check the Kingman ASCE detail page on our site or Fender.com.

Legendary tattoo artist Vince Ray and Fender have teamed up for 2015 NAMM to create one of  the wackiest and craziest acoustic guitars known to man and alien. Vince Ray Outter Space Bucket fits this bill perfectly with its “Guitar Monster from Outer Space” graphic on the top and “Guitar Creature” theme on the back side. Laminated tonewoods, Fender hardware and Fishman electronics are also featured on this single-cut dread. Clad in Ghost White, Tim Armstrong HC is the only signature model in this article. HC stands, of course, for the Hellcat – the common name for the models which make up the roster of Tim`s signature series. HC comes with a compact non-cutaway body made of laminated tonewoods, 19-fret fingerboard (a series standard feature) and Fender hardware. Fishman electronics are also found on this model. Concert Tone series was huge back in the sixties and Fender has decided to reintroduce it for 2015. Concert Tone 54 is the series basic model, offering a solid tone and solid construction quality at a very affordable price. Mahogany is used for both the body (rim and the resonator) and the neck. High quality hardware, plastic Remo cap and traditional styling give this inexpensive five-stringer a great starting position. For a closer view and more info, check the CT 54 detail page on our site or Fender.com.

One tier above the series-opening 54, Fender places the Standard Concert Tone 55 model. Essentially, it features the same type of construction common for the entire series – the classic, traditional banjo construction. Also, the styling is traditional. Rim, back and the neck are all made of mahogany, while the 22-fingerboard is made of rosewood. Chrome-plated metal parts, plastic Remo head and Fender tuners are also featured. Concert Tone 58 Banjo is the third of four models in the CT series` initial lineup. Like its siblings, the 58 is equipped with traditional construction and styling. Rim and the back are now made of maple, instead of mahogany, and the neck is made of maple and mahogany (54 and 55 have all-mahogany necks) In addition, 58 has chrome-plated metal parts, Remo cap and Fender tuning machines. Premium Concert Tone 59 Banjo is the top of the line, the most expensive and most prestigious model of the CT series. The premium features of this upscale five-stringer include: five-piece maple/walnut neck, brass tone ring, black burl walnut resonator, abalone decorations and deluxe hard-shell case. 18th fret of the 22-fret rosewood fingerboard is inlaid with “Concert Tone” logo inlay. With its tuxedo-like Moonlit Sunburst Black color scheme, crème binding and elegant hardware, Roosevelt Resonator CE transports us back into the golden age of Hollywood. The main feature of this classy resonator is its hybrid electronics department, which comes with a Fishman piezo pickup under the bridge saddle and Tele pickup in the neck position. Also, it features a Telecaster headstock, hand-spun resonator cone and Fender tuners. For a closer view and more info, check the Roosevelt Resonator CE detail page on our site or Fender.com.
