SG Standard and SG models, in general, have always been associated with humbucking pickups. SG was introduced back in 1961, SGs have featured humbuckers. The only notable exception was the SG Junior, which featured a lone P-90 pickup in bridge position. Over the years, some of the Special and Standard models had P-90s, but they were a rather rare occurrence. For 2016, Gibson has prepared two SG Standards with P-90s - one Traditional and the other High Performance model.
SG Standard P-90 2016 HP starts with a lightweight mahogany body and set in mahogany neck. The body features a beveled top, deep cutaway (assisted by a fast access neck heel) and signature "devil horns" double cutaway. The neck is rounded, made of one piece of wood, and topped with a rosewood fingerboard (22 frets, trapezoid inlays, 12" radius and 1.745" zero-fret nut).
P-90 pickups on this beast deliver a raw, dirty rock`n`roll tone with a mighty low end and screaming highs. They`re accompanied by a standard set of knobs and switches (split volume and tone controls and a three-way toggle switch). Other premium features include: Gibson`s robotic G Force tuning machines, two-piece bridge unit with titanium saddles, titanium-made zero fret nut, fast access neck heel, gold-plated output jack and noiseless pickup switch. SG Standard P-90 2016 HP costs $1,549 and is the perfect choice for the fans of that classic P-90 crunch.
