SG is one of the most iconic double-cut electric guitars of all time. Its distinct design with two-horned upper bout has remained virtually intact for full 55 years. In 2016, SG line in Gibson`s USA catalog has four models. The Standard 2016T is one of to Standard models (the other one features P90 pickups) and costs pretty acceptable $1,199. It is available in two color options, Ebony and Heritage Cherry.
The new SG Standard 2016T starts off with a solid and beveled body made of mahogany. Traditionally, there are no fancy bindings around the top, no weight relief systems, just a thin, fully solid body made of several pieces of mahogany (typically one to three). The neck is also made of mahogany (a one-piece neck) and is equipped with rounded profile in the back. 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays, 1.695" nut and 12" radius is found on top.
Gibson`s 498T in the bridge and 490R in the neck are mean rocking machines of mass destruction. Hot and gritty bridge pickup cranks out the tightest grooves, while the neck pickup is all about them juicy leads and solos. Classic two-part bridge and Green Key tuners complete the specs list.
As a descendant of a long line of ultimate rocking guitars, this new SG Standard 2016T has rock`n`roll ingrained in every pore. It is a traditional rocker with modern build quality and probably the best value for the money ratio out there.
