If any guitar can be named a modern classic, then it would most certainly be the marvelous ES-339. Modern and vintage at the same time, the down-sized rendition of ES-335 for modern solid-body players, it has won the hearts of both the classic and modern Gibson fans. In 2016 Gibson Memphis catalog, there are several 339s and this is the standard model. Ladies and gentleman, we give you the 339 in all its glory. 2016 ES-339 is a semi-hollow guitar with almost identical appearance to the older 335, but a bit smaller. The body features thinline construction (it is notably shallower than Gibson`s classic jazz boxes) and renowned ES-339 styling. Back, sides and top are made of three-ply maple/poplar/maple laminates, while the center block is solid maple. Both the Faded Cherry and Sunset Burst options feature creme binding around the top and neck, triangular vintage pickguard and unbound "f" holes. Also, they`re both finished in nitrocellulose lacquer. Mahogany neck rocks the C profile in the back and a one-piece rosewood fingerboard on top (22 frets, block inlays, 1.675" bone nut and 12" radius). Burstbucker 2 in the bridge and Burstbucker 1 in the neck grant this rocker a super-wide scope ranging from easy blues and jazz to hot and heavy hard rock. Classic controls unit completes the electronics section. Two-piece bridge unit and Grover`s Rotomatic tuners finish up the rather impressive specs list. All in all, 2016 ES-339 is a super-versatile six-string with roots set deeply in the heritage of classic rock. Though a price tag of $3,149 might come off as steep, first few notes on this miraculous semi will convince even the staunchest among the sceptics that it`s worth every nickle and dime invested in it.
