Gibson`s ES-335 was the first semi-hollow electric guitar, introduced back in 1958. It was, as it is now, an exclusive guitar made for professionals and well-standing non-professionals. Back then, it was the perfect instrument for rock players to enrich their tone with ES`s great resonance and distinct brightness. Vice versa, it offered jazz players (who mostly relied on hollow-body guitars) a unique opportunity to experience tone with almost no feedback while still not compromising on tone. Today, in 2016, ES-335 is a tested and proven icon of popular music. It can be found anywhere, from jazz and blues, to classic rock, rockabilly, punk and even hard rock. 2016 ES-335 Figured is, essentially, an ES-335 but with a figured (flamed) maple top. Back and sides are still made of maple/poplar/maple laminates and the center block is still made of solid maple. Set mahogany neck is attached at 19th fret and has a traditional "Rounded" C profile. 22-fret rosewood fingerboard sits on its top (block inlays, 12" radius and 1-11/16" bone nut). Pair of Burstbucker pickups (BB 2 in the bridge and BB1 in the neck) is accompanied by a standard Gibson set of controls. It yields the classic Gibson tone we all know and love. With a price tag of #3,849, it is $350 more expensive than the regular ES-335. It offers the same playability, same build quality and tone, but it throws in an AAA grade flamed maple top.
