1959 ES-175D is one of the most expensive Gibson Memphis models for 2015, boasting a super-high $5,199 price tag. Only two models from 2015 lineup are more expensive, both 1950s models (one of them is also a Limited Run model). The base for the exclusive six-stringer before us is the 1959 incarnation of the hugely popular ES-175D, a fully hollow and single cut Electric Spanish guitar from 1959. Gibson Memphis has done a terrific job at replicating the looks, the feel and the tone of the original ES. Like many other 2015 Gibson Memphis models, this one comes with the laminated maple/poplar/maple body against a mahogany neck. Arched top, sides and the arched back feature this combination, and both the top and back feature creme binding around the edges. In order to nail this model to the very last detail, Gibson Memphis had to inspect the original down to the very last detail, and reconstruct it in present day and time. Pickups department is fit with a pair of MHS pickups (these humbuckers are the most faithful recreation of the original 1950s PAFs ever made) with the classic controls unit (vol/vol/tone/tone/3-way toggle switch). Two-piece bridge unit behind them is made up of a rosewood bridge and the zig-zag tailpiece. Mahogany neck features the standard mortise & tenon joint and rocks the historic truss rod on the inside. 20-fret fingerboard is made of rosewood and features split parallelogram inlays, rolled binding, as well as the 1.7" nylon nut. Vintage-styled Kluson tuners on the traditional Gibson headstock round off the specs list.
