Back in the beginning, in the 1950s, Stratocasters, as well as Telecasters, were primarily made with ash bodies and maple necks. Then, towards the end of the decade, alder started taking over as a cheaper, more available and more reliable tonewood. Some sixty years later, alder is the main (almost the only) body wood in Fender catalog. Maple was never changed as the primary neck wood. Today, in 2015, Fender pays homage to the earliest stages of Stratocaster production with a majestic Limited Edition Sandblaster Stratocaster with Ash Body. It comes in Sapphire Blue and Crimson Red color options. Both are finished in satin and have black plastic parts, along with the chrome/nickel hardware. Solid and double-cut ash body shows its rich and beautiful grain through the satin-finished paint, enhancing the overall appeal of this exclusive six-stringer. On the top, Fender installs the standard two-point synchronized tremolo bridge with string-through construction, a black pickguard and a set of three American Standard single-coils. Classic controls unit is installed along with them. Maple neck rocks the modern C profile int he back and a 22-fret maple fingerboard on the top. Sealed Fender tuners grace the big vintage-styled headstock and cap off the main specs list.
