4004 is one of newer installments in the cult 4000 series of Rickenbacker basses. Traditional construction and design of 4001 and 4003 are a bit modernized and updated for the 4004 Cheyenne II model. Maple wings of the body are glued onto the walnut/bubinga neck and topped with a flamed maple cap. This is a novelty in 4000 series, as 4001 and 4003 feature all-maple construction. 4004 Cheyenne II is available in a standard range of Rickenbacker colors. These are finished in gloss and equipped with gold-plated hardware. On the top, 4004 features a four-saddled hardtail bridge, as well as a pair of humbucking pickups. Master volume and master tone comprise the simple controls unit. Walnut/bubinga neck is topped with a standard 20-fret rosewood fingerboard.
