NAMM 2015: Cordoba`s new Minis

Cordoba reinvents the classical guitar through the Mini series.

NAMM 2015: Cordoba`s new Minis

A completely new perspective on the classical guitar concept offers small bodies, short scales, full-sized necks and huge tone.

After more than 150 years of history, countless variations, concepts and fusions, we still haven`t seen all the classical guitar has to offer. Exclusive tonewoods, synthetic materials, lavish decorations and hardware, cutaways, preamps, electro-acoustic hybrids, frame bodies, nylon stringers have seen their fair share of innovation and fusion. But, at this year`s NAMM, Cordoba has shown that the classical guitar hasn`t said its last words, yet. Their brand new Mini series brings a set of three small classical guitars. But, these are not ukuleles, nor are they down-scaled student guitars. No, Minis are short-scaled, travel-sized guitars with full-sized necks. Bodies of the three models of the initial lineup are 195mm wide, 255mm long and 65-75mm deep. Besides that, all three feature 20” scales. 18-fret fingerboards have 1.96” wide nuts and the necks beneath them have standard classical contours. Mini R, Mini M and Mini O all feature different tonewood selection, thus the letters M, R and O in their names.

Mini series models feature pretty much the same specs lists, but the one thing where they all differ is the tonewood selection. Mini M comes with mahogany back and sides with a solid spruce sound board on top. Compact-sized pin bridge replaces the regular classical one. Cordoba Mini M

While the M model features mahogany on the back and sides, the Mini R comes with Indian rosewood back and sides. Solid Sitka spruce sound board remains on top. Rosewood binding, open-geared tuners, and the dot inlays on the fingerboard are also shared with the other two Mini models. Cordoba Mini R

Where M stood for mahogany and R for rosewood, Mini O`s O signifies ovangkol, and Cordoba takes it a step further on this one. This means that the entire body, including the solid top, is made of ovangkol. Other than that, this is your regular Mini.
