Universe is a sub-series within the legendary JEM range of Steve Vai`s signature guitars. Though lot smaller and younger, Universe line is a very strong one. For 2015, it will be reinforced with one model, while the regular JEM welcomes two novelties. Universe71P is a seven-stringed guitar with a solid, double-cut JEM/RG/Universe body and Wizard neck. American basswood is employed as the body material, while maple and walnut make up the seven-piece neck. As for now, though unlikely to change in the future, UV71P (P stands for Premium, as this is a Premium level instrument) is available in glossy white coloe with a white pickguard and Cosmo Black hardware. Headstock is also painted in matching white color. Steve Vai models come exclusively with locking Edge tremolo systems and this ubiquitous seven-string is no exception. But, instead of the third generation, a second generation Edge system is utilized (as opposed tot he JEM models, there are no grooves in the body behind the saddles. DiMarzio traditionally supplies the pickups for the JEM/UV models and this one`s fit with a set of three passive Blaze pickups (H/S/H configuration). Master volume, master tone and a five-position blade switch complete the electronics unit. Wizard-7 is the exact name of the super fast neck profile. It is combined with a classic bolt-on joint in the back and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard on the top.
