The legendary SG has been in continuous production since 1961 (the year of its inception), the longest of all solid-bodied Gibson models. Also, SG is the best-selling Gibson solid-body guitar of all time. 2018 lineup has only five models: SG Faded, SG Special, Gary Clark Jr Signature, Sg Standard, and SG Standard HP.
SG Special 2018 is the second most affordable SG for 2018 model year; it costs $1,099 and brings the solid, beveled body w/small pickguard, minibucker pickups, super-fast neck w/24-fret fingerboard, and classic hardware options. Natural Satin and Satin Cherry are the only available color options (both have nickel hardware, satin finish, black plastics).
Key features include a solid mahogany body, mahogany neck (w/slim taper profile), 24-fret rosewood fingerboard (24.75" scale, 1.695" nut), TOM/stoptail bridge unit, Gibson USA minibucker pickups, and vintage-style Keystone tuners.
