After the sharp and pointy 1957 Explorer concept failed, Gibson came up with a slightly more conventionally designed and rounder Firebird in 1963. Neck-through construction, reversed headstock and minimalistic styling hit the home run right off the bat. Firebird quickly became a rebel standard, a guitar for blues and rock misfits from all corners of the world. Firebird has remained in production to this very day, having countless incarnations. The current one is named Firebird V 2016T and it brings back all the things which made Firebird an icon it is today. Firebird 2016T has a solid body with two mahogany-made wings and mahogany-walnut neck running through the middle. The body is flat and has a traditional pickguard covering the lower cutaway. Nine-piece neck rocks the classic Firebird profile and is topped with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. 1.695" TekToid nut, trapezoid inlays and 12" radius complete the fingerboard. Pair of ferocious 495 minibuckers compensates in huge tone everything it lacks in size. Set of two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle pickup switch comprises controls. Two-piece hardtail bridge (though the original Firebird V came with Vibrola tailpiece) and Steinberger`s gearless tuners promise perfect tuning and intonation stability even after the longest of gigs. This exciting and in-your-face rocker cover all the basses from slow and heart-breaking blues to adrenaline-drenched, full-on hard rock, and at a reasonable price at that ($1,099).
