Back in the early 1960s, when Gibson was losing many of their customers to Fender`s modern and hip Stratocaster and Telecaster, it was time to rethink the entire philosophy of Gibson Guitars. Quickly, the flat top SG and Firebird were introduced as a measure to keep the younger players and update the catalog. Both the SG and Firebird went on to become legends of Gibson catalog and they`ve both now considered cult guitars. For 2014, Gibson has introduced only one FB named simply 2014 Firebird. This new Firebird is a solid and single-cut guitar with the traditional neck-through-body construction, 24-3/4" scale and slightly vintage-oriented styling. Solid and flat body is made of mahogany wings on the sides and maple/walnut neck in the middle. This type of construction gives Firebird huge tone and almost infinite sustain, despite the thin body. Pair of minibucker pickups is featured on the top. They are controlled through two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle-pickup switch. Maple/walnut neck is slim fast and very user friendly. On it`s top, there is a 22-fret fingerboard made of rosewood. The MSRP for this gorgeous Firebird is set at $1,798.
