Back in the late 1940s and early `50s, Gibson`s Les Paul was envisioned as an exclusive guitar made for affluent players. Things started to change very quickly, as the first Jr and Special models rolled out in 1954 and 1955, respectively. These two models made Les Paul available to anyone and everyone, but it retained its high class aura. Various budget-friendly models came in and out of the picture until the Studio came in in the 80s. Studio changed the game forever and paved the way for inexpensive LP models. Soon after, Epiphone picked up the inexpensive LP models, leaving the expensive ones to Gibson USA and Custom. The brand new Les Paul Special VE is a beginner guitar with a very basic LP features list. It is available in Vintage Worn Vintage Sunburst, Vintage Worn Ebony, Vintage Worn Cherry, Vintage Worn Walnut and Vintage Worn Heritage Cherry Sunburst. The flat-top body of the VE (VE stands for Vintage Edition) is made of poplar and paired with a bolt-on maple neck. The neck features the regular 1960s slim taper profile and is topped with a 22-fret fingerboard made of rosewood. Medium jumbo frets, dot inlays and 1-11/16" nut complete the fingerboard. Epiphone`s open-coiled 700T (bridge) and 650R (neck) yield a very decent tone, considering the fact that Special VE is a beginner guitar. Two-piece hardtail bridge (tune-o-matic bridge/stoptail bar) and die-cast Epiphone tuning machines complete the specs list.
