B 55 is among the most affordable five-string basses in the popular B series. Not just popular, this series is also very populous, it is equipped with a multitude of four, five, six and eight-string basses ranging from beginner`s models, like the B 55, all the way up to B 1004, B 1005, B 1006, B 4 and B 5. These latter models are equipped well enough to serve as full-time professional instruments for players tired of big brand names selling over-priced instruments. B 55 is pretty fine beginner`s five-stringer. It`s solid, double-cut and made of basswood. On it`s top, ESP installs two pickups (J pickup in bridge and P pickup in middle position). Maple neck is bolted to the body and is topped with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard.
