With Applause, Ovation follows the current trend of renaming the budget section of the catalog. This is mainly done by the brands as a compromise between keeping the aura of prestige around their name and competing in the most lucrative section of the market, the beginner and low intermediate class. AE27 is a text book example of such a compromise. In essence, looking at the design and construction appointments, it is an Ovation guitar, but the price tag and the headstock say Applause. It is a non-cutaway guitar with acoustic-electric construction and classic composite bowl design. Standard Ovation rosewood bridge sits on the top, along with a singular sound hole in the center. Ovation pickup/preamp combo makes up the electronics department. Bound rosewood fingerboard is fit with 20 frets and dot inlays.
