Gibson Robot SG Special

SG Electric Guitars by Gibson

Robot SG Special by Gibson
Worn Cherry

Robot SG Special is in every aspect a regular SG Special. The only difference can be seen on the headstock. It has six tuners in three plus three arrangement, just like the regular SG, but these are not regular tuners. They are robotic tuning machines which can tune the strings at the push of a button. Neck of this Robot SG is a regular one. It`s made of mahogany and it features a set in joint. Back contour of this one-piece neck is a classic C. On it`s top, Gibson installs a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. Dot inlays, 12" radius and 1.695" string nut complete the fingerboard. Classic set of humbuckers for this SG includes 498T in the bridge position and 490R in the neck position.

I have recently purchased a Gibson Standard SG Robot and I really do like it. I already had an Standard SG and wanted another one so I got the Robot model. So far the Robot works as advertised, changes tunings fast and accurately and plays as well if not better than my Standard SG. I really cant tell the difference in the ebony fingerboard, but I do feel that the Robot is considerably heavier, I dont know if this is because the body is not routed or what. On my home scales the Standard weighs 6.6 lbs. and the Robot 7.2.

This is my 4th SG...have a 64 SG Jr., 77 Standard, 2010 Classic and this one. I love the Robot feature as I use 4-5 tunings when playing. The Robot tuning system is reliable and allows me to take 2 less guitars with me to gigs!

High quality and especially great for the classic rock genre.
