Two sweet new guitars in Epiphone catalog.

Epiphone Unveil 1961 SG and Dot Royale

Epiphone present the newest reinforcements for the SG and ES model lines. The 1961 SG replica and ES Dot Royale.

1961 SG

Back in 1961, the SG marked the beginning of a new chapter in electric guitar history. Solid guitar with a massive tone brought up hard rock heavy metal sound to the spotlight. The Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG is among the best options until the actual time machine becomes available. This replica gives that legendary vintage sound of the 1961 SGs, but for an affordable price.

When it emerged on the scene, the SG was referred to as a "fretless wonder" for it`s low frets and fast action. That light guitar with double cutaway, body lighter, but as strong as Les Paul`s was an instant hit. P-90 pickups offered tone and clarity of single coils, but with the bite of the humbuckers. Pete Townshend, Tony Iommi, Angus Young, Frank Zappa are some of the most distinguished SG players of all time.

Compared to the original, the biggest difference between Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG and the original 1961 SG would be the year of the production. Mahogany body combined with mahogany neck with a slim taper 1960s D-shape suits the original recipe. Handset 24-3/4" neck with 12" radius, rosewood fingerboard, 1.68" nut width, Wilkinson tuners and a 1960s Epiphone logo add up to the mirror-like image.

P-90 pickups built in the Epiphone Limited edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG faithfully recreate the sound SG had in 1960s. P-90T soapbar in the bridge and P-90R soapbar in the neck position are aimed at players who would like to have something between single and double coil pickups offering good traits of both worlds. Controls on this beauty are separated for each pickup, thus allowing the countless possibilities for the customization of the tone. Three-way toggle is a classic feature on SGs throughout the 50 years of it`s existence. Wrap-around bridge is one stable and durable companion for even the longest gigs, jam sessions and studio hours. Available in : Cherry, Alpine White, Ebony and TV Yellow.

Dot Royale

As Epiphone`s counterpart to the Gibson`s legendary ES-335, Epiphone Dot was introduced over 10 years ago. The Dot gained a large following due to it`s quality combined with affordability. Now, the time came for a total makeover, and the result is the Epiphone Dot Royale. It`s got the style, it`s got the sound, it`s got it all. Even though the Epiphone had their own semi-hollow bodied models in the 1960s, the addition of the classic ES-335 shaped model in the budget area of the market hit the spot. And now, here is Epiphone Dot Royale with great looks, big sound and small price.

Epiphone Dot Royale`s body is constructed of laminated maple with mahogany center block, and is paired with a set mahogany neck. Bridge is made of a tune-o-matic and a stoptail bar, a combo that stood the test of time and offers amazing stability. Alnico V humbuckers in the bridge and neck position give ominous sound properties and an unparalleled tonal range. Controls are separated with a volume and tone knob for each pickup, giving the unlimited possibilities for tone customization. Pickup switch is a three-way toggle. Slim Taper D-shaped set mahogany neck is fast and comfortable and gives a great playing feel. Rosewood fingerboard features 22 medium jumbo frets and dot inlays. Other features include: 12" fingerboard radius, 24-3/4" scale, synthetic bone nut, 1.68" nut width, Grover tuners, gold hardware and a pickguard. Available in Pearl White.
