Mark Holcomb of progressive wizards Periphery is one of the most prominent PRS signature artists of younger generation. With over a decade of fidelity to PRS guitars, Mark can be considered one of the veterans. SE Mark Holcomb model for 2017 sports some of the most metal-oriented specs to ever appear under the PRS badge. The looks are pretty metal as well, though they still retain that classic PRS note. Holcomb Burst w/gloss finish and black chrome hardware is the only available color option. Core construction features include a mahogany body, beveled quilt maple top, three-piece maple neck and 24-fret ebony fingerboard (white binding, 25-1/2" scale, Bird inlays, 20" radius). Major hardware and electronics features include a PRS plate style bridge, PRS Design tuners and Mark`s signature Seymour Duncan Alpha/Omega pickups.

A metal guitar that has everything AND still be affordable at the same time can be hard to find but PRS has managed to do it with the PRS SE Mark Holcomb. The Alpha/Omega pickups are a great addition to the guitar because of its clarity in playing chords even through overdrive/high gain and it sounds best in drop tuning. I have never played a 20" radius ever but now that I have on this guitar, I can definitely sense the small difference compared to the usual 16" on my Ibanez and I feel that the flatter board helps with playing chords more easily. I like the 3-way pickup selector along with the push-pull option because of its versatility and I don't use the 2nd and 4th positions much anyway on 5-way selectors. Tuners hold pretty well. The satin neck feels really nice and smooth. The only thing I would change is the nut but it's mostly just preference for me. Overall a really great guitar that is 2 steps ahead of most guitars around this price point.
