RG series is now split into several divisions with defined target populations of players and defined places on the market. For 2015 NAMM, Ibanez has prepared several new RG models and RG970WQMZ is one of them. Number 970 says it belongs to the intermediate Premium sub-series, while the letters WQMZ signal it has an enhanced quilted maple top. Beneath the bound top, Ibanez opts for a solid American basswood body. Together, they forma fantastic base for a strong, full-throated growl of the sinister DiMarzio trio installed on the top. Namely, pickups installed on the quilt maple top are: DiMarzio IBZ (bridge and neck pickups are humbuckers with a single-coil IBZ in the middle). Control unit which comes along with them is a basic one: master volume, master tone and a five-position blade switch. Bridge section is fit with the second generation of the revolutionary Edge Zero locking tremolo system. Five-piece neck is made of five pieces of wenge and bubinga and has a standard bolt-on joint. On it`s top, a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard is found. It features creme binding, offset pearl dot inlays and a locking string nut. Die-cast tuners wrap up the specs list.
