The legend lives on! Over two decades and still growing stronger and stronger each year, RG series celebrates 25 years with this RG1XXV model. The best selling line of metal-oriented guitars started back in 1987, and now, in 2012 it`s a quarter of a hellraising century for this hot rocking series. RG1XXV comes with all of the classic appointments of an RG. For starters, the classic double cutaway body is made of American basswood with a flat top. There is no binding, but there is a black plastic pickguard on both fluorescent pink and fluorescent yellow color options. The bridge is Zero-Edge II double locking tremolo in combination with a locking string nut and black plating. Pickups are a standard RG layout of H-S-H pickups. In all three positions there are DiMarzio Ibanez passive pickups. They are controlled through a very simple layout of master volume, master tone and a five-position blade switch. The neck is made of five pieces of maple and walnut with an exclusive Wizard Premium contour. The fingerboard is made of bound rosewood with 24 jumbo frets and a set of sharktooth position inlays. The inlays are painted to match the body color.

The sound, and especially the playability of this guitar exceeded my expectations. Out of the box, the action was a tad high for my tastes, but after minor bridge and truss-rod adjustments, this thing can play as good, if not better, than my RG1570 Prestige. I was expecting it to have the exact same neck as my RG920QM Premium, but to my surprise, it was just as wide as my RG1570 Prestige, and almost as thin. Wide and thin necks are not only great for solos, but for playing complex Jazz chord structures as well. I play a variety of styles from Rock, Blues, Fusion Jazz, to Pop/R&B/Funk, and this guitar can accommodate practically any genre with its H-S-H pickup configuration. My only disappointment is the absence of a deluxe gig-bag and movable truss-rod cover, which are included in the original Premium package. Overall, a great bang for the buck.
