SG-3 comes with three humbuckers installed, instead of two. This brings more versatility and bigger tone to the table. 490R humbucker is installed in both the neck and middle positions, while the bridge position is reserved for the iconic 498T. Master volume and master tone knobs are accompanied by a six-way rotary switch. This controls unit is quite rare and appears seldom, even on the three-pickup Gibsons. Pickup covers, as well as the rest of the hardware, are plated in gold. Body of this model is a standard one. It`s solid, double-cut and made of mahogany. It is paired with a st in neck, also made of mahogany. Standard slim taper contour is featured in the back and a 22-fret fingerboard made of rosewood on the top.
