Standard label in Gibson`s catalog usually designates the top of the range section considered as the regular. Models ranked above it fall into the Deluxe and Custom categories and sometimes the Standard model is the top model of the entire range. Back in 1958m the first Standard (single-cut Les Paul) was introduced into the catalog and has become a mark of quality, flawless craftsmanship, durability and unmatched tone. SG Standards have always been more affordable than their Les Paul counterparts and the tradition continues with the 2014 SG Standard. It comes with a solid and double-cut mahogany body with beveled edges and flat top. On the top, Gibson installs a standard two-piece bridge unit and a pair of `57 Classic humbuckers. Though they pay tribute to the original 1957 humbuckers, `57 Classics are the perfect match for this year`s SG Standard, as they bring out the best of the all-mahogany construction of this vintage-styled six-stringer. Controls include two volume knobs with push/pull switches, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle pickup switch, Mahogany neck is slim, fast and glued to the body. 22-fret rosewood fingerboard is found on it`s top. Modern Min-E-Tune robotic tuners complete the core specs list (Min-E-Tune tuners are compulsory for 2014 Standard models). The MSRP for 2014 SG Standard is set at $1,635.
