Melody Makers were the original workhorses of the Les Paul lineup introduced way back in the late 1950s and they`ve appeared and disappeared from the catalog several times after the initial period of production, which ended in 1971. Melody maker models have seen a huge rise in popularity near the end of the first decade of the 21st century and are still riding on that success wave. 2014 Melody Maker Les Paul is a no frills, no filler guitar with only the essentials. It comes with a solid and single-cut body made of mahogany base and maple top. Top is carved, but features no binding, nor there is a classic LP pickguard on it. Yellow, Manhattan Midnight, Wine Red and Charcoal are color options offered with this very affordable LP. They`re all finished in satin and feature combined chrome/nickel hardware with plastic control knobs. Bridge section is fit with a classic one-piece wrap around bridge with fixed construction and chrome plating. Gibson`s active P-90ST and SR single-coils offer a meaty tone with bucket loads of sustain. Their controls unit consists of a standard LP layout: two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle switch. Maple neck is attached to the body through the classic mortise & tenon joint (set in neck) and rocks the rounded `50s contour. This might throw some of the younger players off, especially if they grew up and developed their playing skills on modern thin necks. On it`s top, there is a standard 22-fret fingerboard made of rosewood. It comes with cryogenically tempered frets, dot inlays and a 1.695" wide string nut. Set of six chrome-plated tuning machines is featured on the headstock (classic 3+3 arrangement). The MSRP for this hard rocking six-stringer is set at $620.
