Back in 1984, when it was released, Ride the Lightning revolutionized the world of heavy metal. The second studio effort of the then-notorious Bay Area thrashers known by the name Metallica brought a jaw-dropping, mind-blowing, neck-snapping mix of NWOBHM-influenced melodies and sheer Bay Area aggression and harshness. It`s probably one of the very few metal albums out there with eight anthems on it. For Summer NAMM 2014, ESP introduces a tribute guitar in honor of this eight-track masterpiece. Solid and double-cut body is made of alder, while the bolt-on neck is made of maple (the standard ESP combo of tonewoods). Of course, the custom-made Ride the Lightning cover art graphic is the only color scheme for this one. Simple bridge unit features a tune-o-matic bridge with strings running through the body behind it. EMG`s 81 in the bridge and 60 in the neck position give an earth-shattering roar to this amazing upper-intermediate six-stringer. Bolted maple neck is slim, fast and lies very ell in hand. On it`s top, there`s a 24-fret ebony fingerboard with a Metallica logo inlay at the 12th fret. Locking tuners wrap the specs list. The official announcement on the ESP site claims that no more than 300 LTD Ride the Lightning guitars will be made.
