SH550 is a semi-hollow bodied guitar from Carvin`s Carved Top series. It comes with a single cutaway body made of mahogany back and carved flamed maple top. The top is finished in high gloss and equipped with a pair of "f" holes. In the bridge section, Carvin installs a tune-o-matic bridge with a stoptail piece, though a Bigsby vibrato upgrade is available. Also, the hardware comes in various finishes. Pickups installed on this model include two active humbuckers with a simple controls unit. It includes master volume, master tone with push-pull switch and three-way pickup selector. Neck is made of mahogany and it is topped with an ebony fingerboard. Fingerboard comes with a set of 22 medium jumbo frets, dot inlays and 1.69" wide string nut.

60-70 guitars later...and sitting here now in my sixties...all I can say is this guitar is perfect in every way; feel, balance, tone, simplicity of controls, pickups (which are NOT active as the summary and matrix mistakenly says), coil tapping that really does give it additional sounds and not watered down humbuckers, neck and killer looks. Mine doesn't have a bigsby which I'd never pervert this guitar with anyway. The value is nothing short of astounding and I don't care about the resale value, 'cuz this ax ain't going nowhere!
