Washburn`s signature basses made for Stu Hamm are characterized by lean looks and killer tone. The only combination worthy of one of today`s finest bass players. Stu is also one of the most versatile players around with multitude of styles and techniques he has mastered over the years. One of the upscale models from Stu`s signature line is SHB40, a solid bodied, double cutaway bass with a body made of mahogany. The top on this bass is flat and features no binding. Pickguards are also omitted from the specs, as no Stu Hamm model features one. SHB40 is available in red sparkle and tangerine colors. The bridge is a black painted hipshot with four saddles. Pickup compartment features two active pickups, a single coil in the bridge and humbucker in the neck position. They are controlled through a layout which includes: master volume, master blend, bass boost/cut and treble boost/cut knobs. The neck is made of maple and equipped with a bolt-on joint. The fingerboard is made of rosewood and features 24 frets, yin and yang bass clef inlays and 1.6535" wide string nut.

The Washburn SHB40 looks, feels and plays great. The neck is smooth and I loved the inverted bass clef inlays. I wanted active pickups that had humbucker snd single coil for obvious reasons. However the ONLY complaint I had is you must unscrew the back plate every time you wanted to replace the battery, very inconvenient. Other than that, the fact you have a treble boost, bass boost, another know to blend either or both and a volume boost gives you a LOT of options for tone-you can't beat that! That alone eliminates foot pedals. For the money, it's more bass guitar than some will ever need.
