Ibanez Bass Workshop is a place where the electric basses reach their full strength, size and potential. These are, by no means, instruments for the inexperienced and learners. They`re made for the players who demand the absolutely ultimate tone, strength and playability with no compromise. This involves an additional pound, or two of wood, as well as a somewhat longer scale. The end result, however, is royal quality of both the construction and tone. The latest example is the jaw-dropping BTB685SC. This five-stringed giant comes with a huge body, broad and thin neck, massive upper horn and Bartolini electronics. Solid and single-cut body of this behemoth has wings made of ash (bottom) and rosewood (top). In between them, a five-piece maple/bubinga neck lies sandwiched. Upper horn, which extends all the way down to the 12th fret, has multiple purpose: it balances the giant body and the slim neck, adds an incredible amount of sustain and further solidifies already impressive stability of tuning and intonation. Mono Rail bridge on the top rocks a set of five completely independent saddles (mini-bridges). Bartolini`s famous BH-1 humbuckers are passive and equipped with an extensive controls department. It includes master volume, balance knob, three-pot EQ (bass, mid, treble) and a mid-frequency switch (toggles between the 250MHz and 500MHz modes). Maple and bubinga neck is wide and superbly easy to move across. The same goes for the 24-fret rosewood fingerboard on it`s top. Abalone dot inlays and jumbo-sized fretware complete the fingerboard.
