Relic badge in Fender`s language denotes a special kind of vintage styled guitars and basses. It is given only to models with worn paint and hardware. Second tier of Relic is the Heavy Relic, which features heavily worn paint and hardware in order to make the instrument look as if it has been played for decades. This concept is gaining popularity in recent years and Fender successfully rides on that wave. For 2013, Fender Custom Shop has introduced five models, four guitars and one bass. That one bass is Limited Relic 1955 Precision Bass. It features a solid, double-cut lightweight ash body with flat top and bolt-on neck joint. There is no binding around the top of this worn P-Bass. Bridge is vintage-styled and features two steel saddles, instead of four. It is fronted by a stacked single-coil pickup positioned in the middle. Master volume and master tone knobs comprise the controls. Neck on this four-string relic, Fender installs a bolt-on maple neck. It has the vintage-styled V contour in the back. On top, it features a 20-fret maple fingerboard. Set of four vintage-styled tuning machines are featured on the headstock. The MSRP for this model is set at $5,800.
