Jumbo contour was first made by Gibson Guitars to compete with Martin`s Dreadnought, which reigned the prewar scene. Over the time, jumbo became so popular and commonly accepted, that it turned into a general body contour available to every manufacturer. Not even Martin managed to resist the jumbo and today, there are numerous jumbo models with Martin badge. One of them is J-12SO Sing Out model from the Custom Artist series. It features non-cutaway body made of solid rosewood back and sides with solid spruce sound board on top. Bracing under the fingerboard is also made of solid spruce. Mahogany is used for the neck on this one, instead of hardwood, and it features oval contour. 20-fret ebony fingerboard is installed on it`s top. 27-1/2" scale indicates this model is a baritone guitar.
