Orchestra models are primarily intended for guitarists who play in large bands and orchestras and do not feature very prominent solo roles. This original concept allowed for a smaller body. Though it took a bit away from the projection strength, it gave back in terms of comfort and playability. Over the course of time even lead players started embracing this model. And as the era of amplification stepped in, boundaries between the guitars for backup strumming and solo finger picking were almost erased. Roots OM/SR Herringbone from Breedlove is a non-cutaway model made of rosewood back and side panels with spruce sound board. Bridge is made of ebony and it sports a vintage belly contour. Fingerboard on this model is also made of ebony. It comes with 20 frets, dot position inlays and 1.75" wide TUSQ nut.

I have a MartinD35, Taylor714ce, TaylorT5 , Carvin375 and now have this Breedlove OM/sre roots series. For finger picking the guitar really sounds very good, but using a pick takes away from the sound. I must say the guitar is well built, but I am on my way to my lutier to find out if he can do anything with the relief on the neck. I can play my Taylors or Martins for hours, but for some reason this guitar kills my fingers. Other than that for the money I am satisfied, but wished I waited and saved for a Martin OM28.
