AEW series has been oriented towards the affordable acoustic and acoustic-electric guitars made with exotic tonewoods ever since its introduction. Of course, being a line of affordable and budget-friendly guitars, AEW usually utilizes sound boards made of exotic tonewoods, while the rest is made of regular tonewoods (such as rosewood, mahogany, maple). AEW models also frequently feature Ibanez`s own electronics (in case they`re acoustic-electric) and cutaway models have "soft" Florentine cutaways to allow for easier access to upper frets. AEW31BC is one of pretty standard AEW models, featuring Ibanez electronics, Florentine cutaway, exotic soundboard and a $399.99 price tag. AEW31BC has a compact and comfortable AEW body with glued-in neck as its base. Back and sides of the body are made of mahogany, while the top is made of bocote (a beautiful, seldom used tonewood). The neck is also made of mahogany (AEW profile, dovetail joint at the 14th fret). 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with small dot inlays and 1.69" wide nut tops the neck. Ibanez under-saddle pickup and AEQ-SP2 preamp with on-board tuner comprise the electronics unit (this is Ibanez`s standard amplification option). Other major features include a rosewood bridge and die-cast tuners.
