This is my first banjo, and I am very pleased with this instrument. I found a used Washburn B14K on craigslist for $500. I was tempted to buy it, so I looked all over the internet for advice in purchasing a first banjo, and the Washburn B14K was said to be a decent first banjo. Then I looked on amazon and finally ebay and found specialtytraders selling the "imperfect" banjos for $379. The B14K is a very nice banjo. It comes with a very nice hardcase to store the banjo in. My Washburn B14K came with spikes already installed on the 5th string. This Washburn B14K is great looking. I purchased this from specialtytraders as a "finish imperfection" and saved about $250 (or more). I looked the banjo over when I got it, and could not find anything wrong with the finish. When I showed my daughter she said it was "very pretty". The only thing that was wrong with this banjo is it was a little "loose" and I had to tighten up some bolts and nuts, which I think is a very normal thing with new banjos. I have had this Washburn B14K for about 3 weeks now, and practice with it every chance I get. Learning rolls. Never played an instrument before. I am in my 50s, and enjoy the heck out of my banjo. I have to tweak the strings every few days to put it in tune. When I check the tuning, I am saying it goes a little sharp. Just a bare tenth of a turn on one or two of the tuners. This is a great banjo in my opinion. Are there better ones? I am quite sure there are, and they cost a lot more than this Wasburn B14K cost me. The cost vs the chance that I may decide I hate playing a banjo and lose my money on this purchase, was in the right spot for me. Oh, and it sounds GREAT!Read full review

Banjo arrived with bridge not set and two bolts of the resonator loose in the case. Called the supplier and they helped me get the banjo set up. Tuning took quite some time and goes out of tune easily. This may improve with usage. The case is very nice and the banjo with case was a good deal. Not happy that the instrument was made in China.
