I bought this Epiphone Les Paul because I played one at a music store and loved it, but did not want to pay new retail price. I found one on ebay used in nice condition, bid and won it. The Epiphone Les Paul is a very good buy for the difference in price between it and Gibson. You can buy the Epiphone, upgrade the pickups, pots, switch, jack and wiring to 1950's specs. and you have a great playing, sounding Paul for significantly than a Gibson. There is not $2500.00.worth of difference to a WORKING man! I have owned 1950's Gibson Les Pauls in the 60's-70's and my upgraded Epiphone Les Pauls are close You could almost buy a used car with the money you saved!
I decided to buy this guitar because Epiphone guitars are cheap(er) than most and the deluxe models are well made. Since they're on the cheaper side, you can upgrade the electronics for a decent price and build a guitar that sounds just as nice as a $3,500 Gibson... which is what I plan to do.
It had some things to fix but at the price it still is doable.

I had been looking for an Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty for a while. I already own a Gibson ES335 and a Carvin Bolt Strat as well as an Ovation Celebrity acoustic. This Black Beauty feels and plays and feels as nice as the ES335. I love the mellow tone of the neck pickup. The bridge pickup isn't as bright as I would like and I am considering replacing it. The pickups, in general, don't have the overtones that the ES335 has, but for the money the Epiphone is great and I have not regretted the purchase.
