Takamine Unveils Pro Series 1 and Pro Series 3 Models

Takamine introduces Pro Series 1 and Pro Series 3 lines with seven acoustic-electric guitars each.

Takamine is the largest acoustic guitar manufacturer from Japan and their ranks feature variety and quality rarely seen across the horizons of acoustic guitar section of the market. Their main sectors, Pro and G, cover acoustic, acoustic-electric, steel-stringed, nylon-stringed, 6 and 12 stringed guitars and for the fall of 2012 Pro sector is updated with two brand new series. They come with seven guitars, each. All are acoustic-electric, with thirteen steel-stringers and only one nylon-stringed classic. Pro Series 1 has: P1D, P1DC, P1JC, P1JC-12, P1M, P1NC and P2DC models. On the other side, Pro Series 3 is equipped with P3D, P3DC, P3DC-12, P3MC, P3NC, P3NY and P3FCN.

Pro Series 1 common features include body, neck and fingerboard tone woods, hardware plating, finish and other aesthetic appointments, such as binding. Also, bracing and electronics are the same. All models are made of sapele back and sides and cedar top. The exception is P2DC, which has spruce top. Necks are made of African mahogany and topped with 20-fret rosewood fingerboards. Rosewood is also used for bridges, which feature two-piece saddles made of bone. Also, scalloped X bracing is used on every one of them. Electronics include Palathetic pickups and CT4B preamps. Biggest differences among models are their body contours.

Takamine P1D is a non-cutaway dreadnought guitar, which contains all of the above mentioned common series features. Sapele and spruce body is bound in several layers of binding and equipped with a black plastic pickguard. Standard bridge section is matched with fingerboard, which is also made of rosewood. Takamine P1DC is a single cutaway variant of the above mentioned P1d and these two share a vast majority of features. Sapele back and sides with cedar top are combined with African mahogany neck, which is attached with a 14th fret dovetail joint. Rosewood is used for both the bridge and 20-fret fingerboard. Pro Series 1 models have chrome hardware installed. Palathetic pickup and CT4B II preamp are installed on this, as well as on all other models of the series. Takamine P1JC is one of series` two jumbos. This one comes with a set of six steel strings, while the other one features twelve. This jumbo-shaped steel-stringer comes with single cutaway body made of standard sapele and cedar. Back and sides are made of sapele and sound board is made of cedar. Multi-ply binding and black plastic pickguard are featured on the top. Gloss finish is applied on top, while back and sides feature satin. Takamine P1JC-12 is twelve-stringed sibling of the P1JC model. It only differs from the series` basic jumbo with number of strings. Rosewood fingerboard has standard number of 20 dot marked frets and bone nut. Palathetic pickup and CT4B II preamp comprise the electronics unit installed within the body made of sapele and cedar. This sapele/cedar made body is combined with African mahogany neck. They are connected through a 14th fret dovetail joint. Takamine P1M is series` only orchestra model. There is also one in Pro Series 3, with this one being non-cutaway variant, while the other one sports single cutaway design. Takamine P1NC brings forth the fourth and final body contour featured in Pro Series 1, Takamine`s own NEX. This contour is based upon the widely used and already a common one, grand auditorium. Pro Series 1 P1NC NEX features single cutaway design and scalloped bracing. Rosewood is used for both the bridge and fingerboard. Bridge comes with a standard series` contour and bone saddle, while the fingerboard sports 20 frets with dot inlays and bone nut. Chrome-plated tuners on this model are arranged in three-a-side pattern on the headstock. This feature is shared by all other Pro Series 1 and Pro Series 3 models. Takamine P2DC is a variant of P1DC model with only difference being the spruce sound board used on P2DC. Other than that, these two are the same. Sapele back and sides are installed under the sound board of P2DC. Among the shared features are Palathetic pickup, CT4B II preamp, rosewood bridge, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard and many others. Pro Series 3 features models very similar to Pro Series 1, with the difference being Pro Series 3 models are positioned above Series 1 guitars. Gold-plated hardware and all solid construction of the body prove this. Some of the common traits of Pro Series 3 models include sapele back and sides, cedar top, scalloped X bracing, rosewood bridge, Palathetic pickup, CT4B II preamp, African mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. Dreadnought, orchestra, NEX, New Yorker and classical contours are used for this series.

Takamine P3D is the basic one of three dreads featured in this series. It comes with non-cutaway variant and it sports a set of six steel strings. Solid sapele back and side panels are combined with solid cedar top. This Body is equipped with scalloped X bracing and multi-ply binding. Pro Series 3 models don`t have pickguards. Takamine P3MC is the second of two orchestra models featured in these two series. This one belongs to the Pro Series 3 line and has single cutaway design. Sapele and cedar used on this model are solid and arranged in sapele back and sides, cedar sound board pattern. Multi-ply binding and single circle rosette are combined with satin finish and golden hardware. Bridge and fingerboard are made of rosewood. Bone is used for both the saddle and nut. Takamine P3NY is the name of the only parlor-sized guitar in this article. It comes with non-cutaway designed body and African mahogany neck. This neck is attached to the body with a dovetail joint, which is set at the 14th fret. Body is made of solid sapele back and sides and solid cedar top. Several layers of binding, single circle rosette, satin finish and gold-plated tuners give this model attractive, yet elegant and discreet appearance.
