NAMM 2015: Schecter Electric Basses

Schecter introduces four series with a total of sixteen models. The series` lineups consist exclusively of four and five-string models.

With sixteen new models spread across four series, Schecter has made something for virtually every bass player in the world. First on the list is the vintage-modern Diamond Plus series with advanced electronics and super versatile tone. Four of them are dedicated to the Diamond J model, while the remaining two go to the Diamond P side of the series.  Diamond-J Plus, Diamond-J Plus Left Handed, Diamond-J 5 Plus, Diamond-J 5 Plus Left Handed, Diamond-P Plus and Diamond P Plus Left Handed form the initial lineup of the series. Next on the menu is the famous model T Session series with Model T Session and Model T Session Left Handed. The second half of the novelties list is reserved for Stiletto Stealth and Stiletto Vintage. Stiletto Stealth 4, Stiletto Stealth 4 Left Handed, Stiletto Stealth 5 and Stiletto Stealth 5 Left Handed form the new Stiletto Stealth series. And, finally, Stiletto Vintage 4, Stiletto Vintage 4 Left Handed, Stiletto Vintage 5 and Stiletto Vintage 5 Left Handed form the Stiletto Vintage series.

We`re opening the review section with the most populous series, Diamond Plus and its base model – Schecter Diamond-J Plus. It is a solid and double-cut bass with an insanely versatile set of pickups and high quality construction (alder and swamp ash body options, depending on the color scheme. Left-handed variant of the previous model – the Schecter Diamond J Plus Left Handed is a solid and double-cut bass with four-string construction, mega versatile electronics, swamp ash body and 20-fret maple fingerboard. With the Schecter Diamond-J 5 Plus, we`re stepping onto the extended range territory. Series` standard choice between two color options and body/fingerboard materials, awesome Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups and Grover tuners are featured on this magnificent five-string. Diamond-J 5 Plus Left Handed is also available, but only with alder body and rosewood fingerboard (Ivory color scheme). Quarter Pound Duncans with the extended controls unit are still there and guarantee the widest possible range of styles and genres. This series also offers a pair of Precision-like four-strings and Schecter Diamond-P Plus is the right-handed variant. Nothing much differs from the J side of the lineup, except the design details. Vintage Duncan pickups combo (SMB-4D in the bridge and Quarter Pound P SPB-3 in the middle) replace the J/J combo, which could be considered the only real difference. Sixth and final model of the Plus series is Schecter Diamond-P Plus Left Handed. This five-string comes in Black Gloss (alder body, rosewood fingerboard) and has the H/S pickups combo (Seymour Duncan SMB/SPB set) installed on the top. As important it is live, good and versatile tone is a must in the recording studio. Especially if you play in multiple bands. Brand new Schecter Model T Session takes care of virtually every session bass player out there. On the left sinister side of the series, we find the Schecter Model-T Session Left Handed. Same swamp ash body with Precision contour, black hardware against the satin-coated natural color scheme, EMG pickups & electronics, 22-fret maple fingerboard and Grover tuners secure high quality of tone and superb playability. Moving onto the main course, we present you the Stiletto updates. The first in line is Stiletto Stealth 4. Black-clad basswood body, maple neck with bolt-on joint, 24-fret rosewood fingerboard, Schecter Diamond pickups and Schecter hardware make up for a great intermediate class metal bass. Next, we have the Schecter Stiletto Stealth 4 Left Handed. Completely identical specs list is featured on this model as well, including a double-cut Stiletto body, 6-bolt neck joint, maple neck, 24-fret fingerboard and Schecter hardware & electronics. Stealth series also comes in five-string version. Schecter Stiletto Stealth 5 reprises all of the features seen on the four-string models, but with an extra string. Also, the scale is an inch longer and now measures 35”. All-black styling and Schecter hardware and electronics are also there. Stealth quartet is being completed by the robust Schecter Stiletto Stealth 5 Left Handed. S-Tek bridge and Schecter Diamond pickups with a simple active controls unit are featured on a flat basswood body. Bolted maple neck rocks a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard, while the modern headstock comes with a set of Schecter tuners. For the fans of a more traditional styling, Schecter introduces a four-piece Stiletto Vintage series. Vintage and Stealth series are pretty similar with their differences being largely limited to styling and cosmetics.
