Newport series design is heavily influenced by Gibson`s range of semi-hollow ES guitars. This fact, instead of being a drawback, is in this case an advantage for the Newport series, as it gave Hamer luthiers a concrete and already well explored platform. Hamer has, luckily, avoided the trap of turning this series into an ES clone. Since it`s introduction in 1999, Newport series has been constantly modified, altered, perfected. The basic Newport model is a semi-hollow double-cut guitar made of mahogany back and an arched spruce top. Tune-o-matic bridge is paired with the Bigsby vibrato and it is fronted with a pair of the Phat Cat single coil pickups. Neck on this one is extremely comfortable and made of mahogany. In the back, it features vintage round contour, while the top is covered with a standard 22-fret rosewood fingerboard.
