HL-550 is a model from the Jazz series of hollow-bodied guitars in Hagstrom`s catalog. This model comes with a single-cut design, reminiscent of the vintage hollow-bodied Gibsons. Body is made of mahogany back, sides and top. Due to the price class this model competes in, Hagstrom has opted to fit it with laminated mahogany, instead of the solid wood. Thus, the HL-550 breaks away from the traditional all-maple construction, characteristic of hollow-bodied jazz guitars. Gloss Natural Mahogany and Matte Natural Mahogany color schemes are available for this model. Wooden bridge is backed up by a beautiful tailpiece and fronted by a Hagstrom active humbucker placed in the neck position. Neck is set in and also made of mahogany. It`s topped with a resinator fingerboard fit with 22 frets.

This guitar is simple in features, but great in payability and tone. Materials a bit on the cheap side, but it's good crafted and stable For playing amplified a great tone, acoustically the tone is not loud. That has got to do with the bracing and the staple inside the guitar. Which, on the other hand, makes it very usable on stage: it will not start to feedback to quickly. I owned a jazzguitar quadruple the price of this one. Which had better materials but wasn't as playable and versitile as this one. The neck is very nice and fast!
