Gretsch is one of the brands with longest traditions in production of electric guitars, right there with Fender, Gibson and other giants of the industry. They remained faithful to the hollow bodied guitars made for rock `n` roll and rockabilly, though solid bodied series do exist in the catalog. Electromatic is the name of the most successful series in their catalog and for the summer of 2012 Gretsch prepared seven new models. G5422DC-12 is a brand new model and it comes with a fully hollow body equipped with double cutaway design. Body back, sides and top are made of five layers of maple. Top panel is arched and carved with a pair of "f" holes. Holes, top panel edge and back panel edge are bound in white binding. Also, the top panel features an elevated white pickguard. Bridge is adjust-o-matic made of rosewood and paired with a trapezoid tailpiece. In the pickups area Gretsch installs a pair of Filtertron humbuckers. They are controlled with master volume, master tone, bridge volume and bridge tone knobs. Pickup switch is a three-way toggle. Neck is made of maple and it is topped with a rosewood fingerboard. 22 medium jumbo frets, humpblock inlays and 1-13/16" wide string nut complete the fingerboard. 24-1/2" scale and chrome plated hardware complete the specs list.
