2013 is a very special year in Gibsons calendar, for it is a year of celebrations dedicated to Les Paul, the inventor of the iconic Les Paul guitars. To honor his work and life, Gibson made four special tribute models, of which each pays homage to a different decade. All of them are minimalistic in design with focus on performance and appointments and innovations which marked the period they`re dedicated to. Thus, the Les Paul '60s Tribute kicks off with a solid mahogany body made with strategically distributed weight relief chambers. Not only for the shoulders, this concept is beneficial for the tone, as well, for the air resonates better with these chambers. Top panel is made of two pieces of plain maple. It`s carved and free of binding and pickguard. This combination of tone woods made Les Paul what it is today, so it`s only right to start a tribute model with these woods. Bridge section is a classic one, with Tonepros tune-o-matic bridge in the front and stoptail bar in the back. Both of them are plated in chrome. Pickups department is equipped with a pair of active Burstbuckers, humbuckers based on the legendary PAFs made by Seth Lover. Two volume and two tone knobs are accompanied by a three-way toggle pickup switch. This control unit exist for decades and it`s one of hallmarks of both the tone and design of Lees Paul guitars. Neck on this model is made of mahogany. It`s glued to the body and equipped with '60s slim taper contour in the back. On top of this great neck Gibson installs rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, acrylic trapezoid inlays, 12" radius and 1-11/16" wide corian nut. Headstock is equipped with a standard set of kidney bean tuners, though optionally, robotic tuners are available. This model comes in four color options: Gold Top, Wine Red, Ebony and Vintage Sunburst. All are finished in satin. The MSRP for Les Paul '60s Tribute is set at $1,599, same as for Les Paul '50s Tribute model.

Very good value for money, but would be nicer in gloss finish. Good quality for the price and there are lots of good reviews out there. I am getting mine in vintage sunburst, and separately ordering a pickgaurd and top hat control knobs to make it look more traditional, after all, a les paul looks empty without the pickgaurd!!
