Gibson`s Memphis division has welcomed 2015 with a huge selection of new models, which were all showcased at the NAMM show this January. 2015 ES-339 Studio is the lineup`s most affordable model, coming in at $1,599. This is, most certainly, not a price tag which could be considered opening, or beginner, but having in mind that Memphis is among the luxurious branches of Gibson family, almost $1,600 doesn`t seem too steep, either. This beautiful 339 comes with a rather thin body, double-cut design and traditional Gibson construction. Back, sides and the top of this double-cut semi-acoustic are made of three-ply maple. Only two color options are available here, the gorgeous and Ginger Burst and dark Wine Red. Both are countered with nickel-plated hardware and black binding, and both leave the maple grain visible through the hi gloss lacquer finish. On the top, the two-piece bridge unit is, instead of the classic tune-o-matic, fit with a locking AVR-2 bridge with a locking tailpiece in the back. `57 Classics occupy the pickups department (Super `57 in the lead position and the regular one in the rhythm). They`re accompanied by a pair of 500k Black Top Hat pots (master volume/master tone) and a three-way toggle pickup switch. Maple neck rocks the classic C profile and the traditional mortise & tenon joint in the back. 22-fret fingerboard on its top is not made of rosewood (though it looks like that), but the baked maple (all of the basic Memphis models feature them), and has dot inlays. Grover`s Rotomatic tuners cap off the impressive specs list of this seductive semi-acoustic.
