ES-339 is a younger and a bit smaller sibling of the iconic ES-335 model introduced in the 1950s. ES-339 comes in more of a Les Paul-ish size, but with a distinctive double-cut design and semi-hollow construction.Usually, ES-339 models are made of maple. Solid maple block is surrounded with laminated maple back, sides and top. Tops are carved and equipped with fancy decorations and hardware. In one word, ES-339 is a worthy successor to the perennial ES-335. Even after the 339`s release, the 335 was not withdrawn from the production lines, despite the new generation model becoming active and pretty successful. ES-335 still reigns supremely over the semi-hollow realm and 339 is becoming an independent model with it`s own fan base. For 2013, Gibson USA has decided to test the mix of the famous ES models and the Studio tier from the solid-body department. Studio concept is focused mainly on the tone and build quality, putting the flash and fancy styling in second place. Such is the case with new ES-3355 and 339 Studio models. ES-339 comes with a semi-hollow body made of solid maple block and laminated black, sides and top. Top is carved, but lacks the "f" holes, the raised pickguard and binding around the edges. Two-piece bridge section on this model is made up of the standard tune-o-matic bridge in the front and the stoptail bar behind it. Both components are painted black, to correspond with the rest of the hardware. Midnight Blue and Ebony with gloss finishes and black hardware are the only color options for this model. Pickups compartment is equipped with a Dirty Fingers Plus humbucker in the bridge position. There is no neck pickup. Master volume and tone knobs comprise the simple and basic controls unit. Set in mahogany neck is topped with a standard fingerboard made of baked maple. 22 frets with dot inlays are installed on it. The MSRP for the Gibson USA ES-339 Studio is set at $1,880 for both the Midnight blue and Ebony color schemes.
