Gibson Memphis` start of 2015 is heavy with innovations and new models. A lot of traditional (especially 1960s) appointments are being revived and featured across twenty eight models introduced at this year`s NAMM. Out of them, only three are 339 models and this is the most expensive one among them. The MSRP for 2015 ES-339 is set at $2,799. The standard 339 for 2015 comes with a semi-hollow body with traditional 339 contours and construction. Back, top and sides are made of two layers of maple and a single layer of poplar between them. Top layer of the sound board is, instead of plain, made of flamed maple, giving this gorgeous rocker even more aesthetic appeal. One of the most significant changes is found in the bridge unit, where AVR-2 bridge joins forces with a now locking stoptail bar). Pickups department features a pair of Gibson USA Burstbuckers (Burstbucker 2 in the lead and Burstbucker 1 in the rhythm position). Two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle pickup switch comprise the controls. Mahogany neck with the traditional C profile and the 1960s truss rod is very smooth and playable. It`s attached to the body with a mortise & tenon joint and is topped with a 22-fret fingerboard made of genuine rosewood (cheaper Gibson Memphis models have baked maple fingerboards). 22 low profile frets, pearloid block inlays and a 1.675" wide bone nut complete the fingerboard. Grover`s Milk Bottle Rotomatics round off the specs list.
