Here we have the new ES-335 Studio, made for and, introduced at 2015 NAMM. This time around, Gibson Memphis raises the ante in their opening model class with a bunch of new and exciting features in fusion with stripped down styling and traditional ES construction. A bit bigger and heavier than the super compact 339, 335 has traditionally been the mainstay of the ES range. ES-335 Studio brings the genuine 335 feel and tone to the masses, while preserving the 335`s position in catalog. All-maple body features the traditional 335 measures and construction, but with completely toned down styling. On the top, Gibson has opted to modify the traditional tune-o-matic/stoptail combo with a locking AVR-2 bridge and a locking stoptail bar in the back. Pickups department is equipped with a pair of `57 Classics (Super 57 in the bridge and the regular one in the neck position). Controls unit installed with them is abbreviated to the master volume, master tone and a three-way toggle switch. Neck is also made of maple and it`s full of traditional features. First of all, it has the traditional glued in mortise & tenon joint and the traditional C profile. Truss rod on the new Gibson Memphis Studio models (including the 339 Studio) is a 1960s model with larger diameter and stronger, sturdier construction. Fingerboard on its top is a modern one - its made of baked maple (rosewood is saved for the pricier models). 22 vintage-styled frets, simple dot inlays and 1.675" wide black corian nut (all of the plastics and bindings, including control pots, are black on 2015 Studio models) complete the fingerboard. Grover`s Rotomatic tuners round off the specs list.
