50 years in production is a very rare feat, achieved only by the most popular and iconic models in history. One of them is the Gibson Firebird. This cult six-stringer was introduced back in 1963 as a replacement for the Explorer, which proved to be too extreme and ahead of it`s time. Softer edges, less extreme design, neck-through construction and unique tone have immediately launched the Firebird to the stratosphere. Ever since, the Firebird models play an important role in both Gibson USA and Gibson Custom catalogs, being considered one of the true Gibson classics. In 2013, Firebird is celebrating it`s 50th birthday and this special occasion is being marked with a special 50th Anniversary Firebird model by Gibson USA. This magnificent axe comes with a classic Firebird body made of mahogany wings and mahogany center. Central section of the body is the continuation of the mahogany neck and it secures the ultimate stability for this golden bird. Bridge section is equipped with a gold-plated tune-o-matic bridge and stoptail bar. Firebird Minibucker pickups are featured in the front. Two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle pickup switch comprise the controls unit. Mahogany neck is topped with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. Tuners on the headstock are Steinberger gearless machines.
