Gibson`s LPJ model introduced for 2014 is one of the most affordable Les Pauls ever built. At the same time, it manages to be more simple than the iconic Studio, yet more graceful than the completely stripped down Junior and Melody Maker models. LPJ`s body is equipped with the modern weight relief system of strategically placed holes in order to decrease the overall weight of the guitar and lessen the strain on players shoulders, without harming the tone. Beautiful and carved-top body is made of high quality mahogany with carved maple cap on top. There is no binding around the top, nor a pickguard on it, for we`re still in the budget zone of the 2014 Les Paul lineup. On the top, Gibson installs the classic two-piece bridge unit. Tune-o-matic bridge in the front is paired with it`s standard stoptail companion in the back. These two, in cooperation with the vintage-styled tuners on the headstock, make sure LPJ stays in perfect tune. Pickups department boasts a pair of open zebra-coiled humbuckers with active electronics and standard set of controls. 1961 Zebra Alnico V pickups are featured in both the bridge and neck positions and give that fat, greasy vintage tone which is being very popular in last several years with both rock and metal musicians. Classic set of controls includes separate volume and tone knobs and a three-position toggle switch. All the controls and switches are placed at their standard positions. Neck on this affordable LP is made of maple and is attached to the body via the classic mortise and tenon joint. As opposed to the slimmer and faster necks on the upscale models, LPJ comes with the rounded `50s style neck contour. On it`s top, there`s a 22-fret fingerboard made of rosewood. It comes with figured acrylic trapezoid inlays, 1.695" wide string nut and 12" radius. Vintage-styled tuning machines are installed on the headstock in the classic 3+3 arrangement. The MSRP for this versatile six-stringer is set at $762.
