The amount of tradition, history, legend and supreme music is just beyond the words when Les Paul meets Marshall amps. This year it is 50 years of Marshall amps and Gibson Custom decided to pay tribute to the greatest of them all by producing 50 copies of 50th Aniversary Marshall Gold Top guitar. This model is base upon one of the most popular LPs ever, 1957 Reissue Gold Top. Only fifty of them will be distributed world wide at the price of $20,000. Sky high price tag and Names such as Gibson Custom and Marshall guarantee for the absolute quality, worthy of half a century of tradition of one of the most monumental pairings in history of rock and music, in general, Les Paul and Marshall. This Gold Top model is made with historically accurate features and body contour, along with materials relates to the original 1957 Gold Top model. Single cut body is made of mahogany back and carved maple top. Period precise creme binding is applied around the edges. Bridge section features a two-piece combo known as tune-o-matic bridge and stoptail bar. Both are plated in nickel. All fifty copies of this model are hand aged by Tom Murphy, so they will actually look as if they were made in 1950s and preserved for decades. Pickups are also vintage styled, even though they are produced in 21st century. Burstbucker 2 with Alnico II magnets sits in the bridge and Burstbucker 1 with Alnico II magnets is in the neck. They have nickel-plated covers and separate control knobs. Volume and tone are separated and accompanied by a three-way toggle pickup switch. This controls unit has remained basically the same throughout the decades, though LPs with alternative ones may also be found. Neck is made of mahogany with maple spleen. It features '50s rounded profile and standard mortise & tenon joint. Neck contour on this model preceded the '59 and slim taper contours and offered a bit bulkier feel of the neck. Fingerboard is made of rosewood and it`s equipped with 22 frets with historically accurate dimensions. Fretwire is also age correct. Frets are marked with nitrocellulose trapezoid inlays and tortoise side markers. 12" radius and 1-11-16" wide nylon string nut complete the fingerboard. Hardware, including vintage-styled Gotoh Reissue Green Key tuning machines is plated in nickel. Tuners are installed on creme-bound headstock in three-a-side pattern. Standard scale is used on this model and it measures 24-3/4" in length.
