After a huge success in the fifties, Gibson`s Les Paul, and Les Paul Custom with the rest of the pack, went through a lot of hardships and struggled for its very existence. It`s not that Gibson was producing bad guitars, it`s just that the players wanted a brief break from the omnipresent LP. Fast forward to 1968 and Gibson decides to give one more chance to the fallen hero, which proved to be one of the best decisions in Gibson history. That same year, besides the futuristic Flying V and Explorer, Les Paul Custom was relaunched. Almost fifty years after the relaunch, Les Paul Custom reigns supremely over the world of solid guitars. 2015 model named 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue is a nod to the legend which brought LP Custom back to life. Pair of 68 Custom pickups drives the tone of this black clad beauty, delivering all the whispers, cries and growls the original `68 model was loved for. Volume and tone knobs also correspond to their historic counterparts, and it goes without saying that the pickup switch is a three-way toggle. Two-piece bridge unit (tune-o-matic bridge and the stoptail bar) and the black pickguard are found on the plain maple top (it is a two-piece top). Beneath the carved top, 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue features a one-piece mahogany body, without a weight relief. Neck, too, is made of a single piece of mahogany. It features a 1960s profile in the back, and a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard on the top. Waffle Back Kluson tuners complete the headstock, and the major specs list. The MSRP is set at $6,699.
