Telecaster and Stratocaster are universally attractive guitars and players from all over the musical map found it impossible to resist their charms. Fender`s family of signature artists is big and covers wide stretch of guitarists from slow and easy blues players like Robert Cray to ultimate metal shredders like Yngwie Malmsteen and Jim Root. This colorful family is a testimony that quality music and instruments know no boundaries and barriers. One of the artists to prove that point is Jim Root of Slipknot and Stone Sour with his Telecaster and Stratocaster signature guitars. This article will cover Jim`s Telecaster model from the Artist series by Fender. It is a solid bodied guitar with single cutaway design, familiar from countless previous incarnations of this iconic model. It is made of mahogany body and maple neck, simple effective and deadly. Mahogany body is flat, solid and free of bindings and top wood caps. Two color options are available, Black and White and both come with satin lacquer finish. White has a black pickguard, while the Black is fit with a white pickguard. Bridge section on this metal axe is made up of a single hardtail unit with string-through-body construction and six adjustable saddles. Like the rest of the hardware, it is plated in black. Pickups installed on Jim Root Signature Telecaster are EMG 81 in the bridge and EMG 60 in the neck position. It is a rare combo to see EMGs on a Fender, but it works like a charm on this one. Master volume knob is accompanied only by a three-position blade switch. This Spartan controls unit has a clear message that this guitar is made for full throttle metal and nothing else. Maple neck is made with modern C contour and it`s bolted to the body. Ebony fingerboard is installed on the White and maple on the Black Tele, both having the exact same specs. 22 medium jumbo frets are marked with dot position inlays, radius is 12 inches and synthetic bone nut measures 1.65" in width. Other features include 25-1/2" scale and sealed tuners.
